Our Story in Pictures- Part 2 Ike Makes Landfall

about midnight friday night we came home from our neighbors house because it was getting pretty windy outside and the rain had started so we knew it was time to settle in and just wait for the storm to pass- they were saying that the worst of the storm would last about 12 hours. Madison & Brady had a sleep over with Jason & I- I wanted us all to be together in case something happened and our master bedroom was actually the safest room in the house. They brought down their sleeping bags and pillows and tons of stuffed animals and they camped out in our room. Jason & I turned on the bedroom tv and just watched the news of what was going on in Galveston, because we knew that it was just a matter of time before we lost power.
Jason, Madison and Brady fell asleep and actually slept through the night, I couldn't sleep. The wind was so loud and the rain was just awful, I stayed up all night just watching outside... watching the trees bend and some fall was really unnerving. We ended up losing power just after 3am and it was a full 8 days before it came back on.

it's difficult to capture in pictures just how scary the wind was, I took a few pictures of our trees, but it's hard to show just how strong the wind was... the pictures just don't convey the feeling of being in the middle of it

good thing we drained so much water out of the pool because we got so much rain that it still almost overflowed (it went up even higher than this)

this picture was taken about 7 hours into the storm... we didn't have power, but we were determined to have a hot cup of coffee. It was really cold outside and we're not used to that, so coffee sounded really good. Jason just went into his car, plugged in the coffee maker and we had some hot coffee- he did blow a fuse though, but that coffee sure was good!

around dinner time on Saturday night the winds died down and the rain actually stopped for an hour or so, so we decided (as did everyone else in our neighborhood) to get out and survey the damage. They following pictures were taken in our neighborhood... we were very lucky, some of our neighbors were not...

an uprooted tree

this is the golf course that's in our neighborhood, everything is flooded

more pictures of the houses in our neighborhood

when this tree uprooted it peeled the grass right up with it

it's difficult to see, but the road is flooded

there isn't supposed to be water here, it's all flooded

trees were on the roads

power lines down... look at the bottom right corner and you'll see the fallen & frayed line

a closer look at the line laying on the ground

look at some of the power lines on one of the major roads near our neighborhood

see the one just hanging there? very dangerous

about an hour later the rain started again and rained for what seemed like forever. we didn't do much the rest of that night, we couldn't, it was dark and cold and rainy and we had no power... check back again as I finish up with our story of the aftermath...
