Our Hurricane Ike Story in Pictures- Part 1 our preparations

Well, any friends/family that were checking on us while we were going through Hurricane Ike and his aftermath without power (and water for a day) know the basics of what was happening in our lives, but seeing it is a little different. And anyone that knows me, knows that I document every aspect of our lives with pictures, so here is our Ike story, in pictures:

this was on Friday morning while we were preparing for the storm, Madison & Brady were being our "storm watchers"

Jason had to fix some flashing on our roof so the wind & rain didn't get under & cause damage

we had to drain some water out of the pool so it wouldn't overflow and cause flooding

our back patio floods even during a reagular heavy rainstorm, so we had to quickly build something to help keep some of the water out, otherwise our kitchen probably would've flooded during Ike

then it was time to wait...

and watch the news coverage of the flooding that had already begun in Galveston before Ike even made landfall

with night time (and Ike) quickly approaching we decided to go outside along with everyone else in our neighborhood and enjoy the cool breeze with friends and wait

the sky was just beautiful and the clouds were moving in this incredible circle, there was no denying that something big was going to happen

we really thought we would lose the two trees in our front yard because they were already bending quite a bit when the wind was just starting to pick up (maybe 20 miles an hour) and they were predicting roughly 80 mile an hour winds, but we were lucky, we didn't lose either tree

this is our next door neighbors tree... everyone was a bit nervous about this one as it aleady leans quite a bit! but, although it did lose some limbs and some bark (it bent forward so much the bark came off in chunks on the back and cracked) it's still standing... not the case for so many other trees... check back later for Part 2 of our picture update for Ike's landfall & aftermath
