Day 4- Leaving Moorea/Arriving on Huahine

Saturday afternoon we left Moorea and took a 30-minute flight to Huahine- the jungle island. This is the part of the trip that I was looking forward to the most. I told our travel agent that I wanted to visit somewhere remote, where we would be forced to do nothing but relax. She suggested Huahine and she gave us exactly what we asked for! Huahine is made up of 2 small islands- Huahine Nui (Big Huahine) and Huahine Iti (Little Huahine). There is a small bridge that connects the two islands.

Boarding the plane!

Getting ready to land

the one and only runway

Arriving at the Huahine Airport- the smallest airport I've ever seen!!
We were greeted by a nice local man that drove us to our resort's boat dock. There are only two resorts on all of Huahine and we stayed at the Te Tiare on Huahine Nui. There is no road on that part of the island, so you have to get to the resort by boat!

Arriving at our resort's boat dock in the small town of Fare

See all the fish????

Here comes our boat (with the town of Fare in the distance)

On the boat headed to the resort!

Coming up to the resort on the boat- this was our first view!

As the boat was pulling up to the dock at the resort we were greeted by a Tahitian man in a pareo blowing on a conch shell and a Tahitian woman handing us cool, scented cloths to clean our face and hands. Once in the lobby we were given fresh pineapple juice while they got the key to our bungalow.

We were given a tour of the resort while being shown to our bungalow. We just couldn't believe how amazingly beautiful it was there!
This is the resorts main building where the boat dock, lobby and restaurant are.

The beach bar where they serve drinks & lunch

The pool... although we were told " Il est un probleme avec la piscine aujourd'hui, mais il est beaucoup mieux de se baigner dans la lagon de toute facon" (which, translated into english means that there is a problem with the pool today, but it is much better to swim in the lagoon anyway)!!!

There are 41 bungalows at the resort (19 garden, 5 beach, 6 lagoon overwater, and 11 deep overwater) and guess which one we got...

We splurged on this portion of the trip and were staying in a deep overwater bungalow and it was well worth the money... it was AMAZING!!!!!!

sleeping area

sleeping right over the water was very relaxing!

deck

where I sat with my Kindle and relaxed!

our little diving deck- where we snorkled from every day

The view we had of the next bungalow over. We were the last bungalow, so we only had a neighbor to one side of us, but that bungalow was empty for most of our stay so it was very private.

Some of the shallow water lagoon bungalows

from our deck we watched the sun set over the islands of Raiatea and Taha'a (you can see the mountain peaks underneath the clouds)

This one is a little blurry beacuse I had to zoom and and the lack of sunlight, but you can really see Raiatea and Taha'a

Once the sun set, it was so dark and so quiet (except for what sounded like thousands of birds in the trees and and the roosters crowing!) It was at night that we really felt like we were someplace remote- no lights, no roads, nothing- it was perfect! It was such a nice feeling walking through the tropical gardens to get to the restaurant for dinner, so peaceful. Then when we got to dinner at the hotel restaurant Ari'i there were polynesian dancers for entertainment.

And of course I had to have a tropical drink with dinner!

When we got back to our bungalow later that night and went down to our little diving deck, we were shocked at how many fish come out at night- especially this type!

There isn't much to do on Huahine once the sun sets- no stores, no tv, not even a road to the resort, so after our late dinner we just hung out at the bungalow enjoying the peace and quiet watching the fish swim under our "house"... perfect vacation!!
